Better late than never!

Since retiring from teaching last year, I have been quite a few places, but never quite felt I knew enough about 'blogging' my trips, or had enough time to give them the attention they truly deserved. I had travelled quite far and wide before retiring, but pretty much only in summer, March break and Christmas break, when teachers are allowed some time off. Always, doing things within a tight budget, and making choices of where to go, where to stay, and what to do accordingly. So, this blog, with a few exceptions will be about travelling comfortably with very few luxurious hotels involved. My aim is to make this useful for people of my age, or thereabouts, who are physically active, want to travel but sometimes feel there isn't much money to do so, and expect to be spontaneous while avoiding being rash about where they go and what they do.

If you are like me, you fall somewhere in between gung-ho and slightly cautious about travelling. You may want to push the envelope of your comfort zone, and you still want to be comfortable. Maybe along the way I might have some, some awe-inspiring moments and somebody else might want to duplicate something I have done. That would truly bring out the teaching moment in me.
My aim: trips that don't cost much, are focused on alternative accommodations, avoiding the banal and the Disney moments, and exploration of the historic and natural components of our beautiful planet

I have a number of topics and places I want to cover in this blog. The Scotland hiking trips are already covered, and Ireland is in the works. But I still want to post past trips, to Northern and middle Italy, to most of France, to New York, Boston and San Francisco, as well as hiking trips to Canada's west coast and the Rockies, to New Orleans and various other places. I also plan to expand on my growing adventures as a house and pet sitter in Southern California, and in other places too.
Let the blogging begin!
